On-Course Hardwood Furniture Products
- Tee Box Bench: The signature on-course furniture piece. A solid hardwood bench (1,800 mm long, slatted seat at 380–450 mm height, angled backrest at 95°) positioned in the tee shelter or at the side of the tee box. The bench must be heavy enough not to blow over in monsoon wind (a Chengal 1,800 mm bench weighs approximately 35–45 kg — well-anchored by its own mass) and stable enough that a golfer can sit and stand easily with a full golf bag on their back. We offer both free-standing and ground-anchored versions.
- Rain Shelter Seating: The timber bench seating within each course rain shelter (pondok hujan) — typically 2–3 metres of bench length per shelter, accommodating a full 4-ball plus their caddies. We fabricate matching benches for all shelters across the course from a single production run to ensure colour and dimension consistency — important for a club’s visual standards.
- Halfway House Bar Counter & Stools: The 9th-hole refreshment point is a key member experience moment. A custom solid hardwood bar counter (900 mm high, 50–60 mm solid top) with matching high stools creates a premium halfway experience that complements a high membership fee structure. We supply both fixed outdoor bar counters and portable standalone units.
- Fairway & Par-3 Seating: Low benches or log-style seating at par-3 spectator points, and benches positioned at strategic viewpoints along the fairway. These can be more rustic in character — a solid cross-section log seat on hardwood leg supports — or match the refined style of the tee benches, depending on the club’s design brief.

On-Course Durability Requirements
On-course golf furniture in Malaysia faces an unusually demanding durability environment. Tee box areas receive intense direct sun all day with no shade from buildings or trees — UV exposure is maximum. Course maintenance involves regular use of turf fertilisers, herbicides, and fungicides that can be chemically aggressive to timber finishes if splashed. Monsoon rain delivers heavy rainfall over extended periods, and furniture that pools water — even briefly — accelerates decay at joints and end-grain. Our on-course furniture is designed for this environment: all joints are designed to drain, not pool; all end grain is sealed with penetrating end-grain sealer before final finish application; all hardware is 316-grade stainless to resist the chloride-rich coastal air of the Johor Strait; and all finish systems use UV-absorbing penetrating oil as the base coat to prevent subsurface delamination under intense UV.
Wood Species: Why On-Course Furniture Demands Class 1 Timber
For on-course furniture that will spend its entire life in full weather exposure, we specify Chengal (Neobalanocarpus heimii) as our primary species. Chengal’s Class 1 natural durability rating means it can withstand full outdoor exposure in Malaysia without preservative treatment for 30–50 years with appropriate maintenance. Its silica content and natural resin system resist fungal attack and termite infestation at a level that no Class 2 species can match. The investment premium of Chengal over Merbau is typically 20–30% — but for a piece of furniture that will be replaced every 5–8 years if made from a less durable species, the total cost of ownership over 30 years clearly favours Chengal. Merbau (Class 2) is our standard specification for covered shelter seating — protected from direct rain and with slightly reduced UV exposure compared to open tee box positions, Class 2 durability is adequate and reduces project cost for large-volume shelter seating orders.
Club Branding on On-Course Furniture
On-course furniture is an excellent medium for subtle club branding. We offer three branding approaches: CNC-routed logo panel — the club crest or name routed 4–5 mm deep into the bench backrest centre panel, stained or painted in the club’s corporate colours; Inlaid logo plate — a stainless steel or brass plate with the club crest engraved and laser-filled, mortised flush into the backrest timber; Branded tee marker blocks — solid hardwood tee markers (typically 200×200×100 mm) painted or stained in the club’s colour scheme (white for ladies’ tee, yellow for member’s tee, blue for competition) with the hole number routed and filled in contrasting colour. All branding is specified with the club’s approval before production and is included in our standard production workflow at no additional lead time.
Our Supply Process for Golf Clubs
- Course Inspection: We walk the course with the club manager or head greenkeeper, photograph all tee boxes and shelters, measure bench positions, and understand the club’s aesthetic requirements and any existing furniture to match or replace.
- Design & Sampling: We produce a design drawing for each furniture type and, for significant orders, fabricate a physical sample for club sign-off before full production.

Care & Maintenance
On-course hardwood furniture requires twice-yearly oiling in Malaysia (April and October recommended to bracket the two monsoon seasons). Pressure wash all furniture at low pressure (50 bar, wide fan) before each oil application. Inspect all hardware annually — any surface corrosion on stainless screws should be investigated (true 316 stainless does not rust in this environment — any corrosion indicates a non-316 fastener that must be replaced). Store tee markers indoors during extended course closures (renovation, tournament preparation) to reduce unnecessary exposure.
