Chengal decking boards are available in several standard widths, with 90 mm and 120 mm being the most popular for residential decking. Care & Maintenance
New Chengal decking should receive its first oil treatment as soon as possible after installation to seal the surface and establish protection. Clean the deck quarterly or more often if it is under trees or near a pool: sweep, wash with soapy water, rinse thoroughly and allow to dry before re-oiling. Annual oiling is sufficient for a covered deck; twice yearly for a fully exposed deck in direct sun and rain.
If the deck is allowed to weather to silver-grey, an annual wash and check of fixings is the minimum maintenance required. Chengal does not rot or deteriorate structurally without oil; the oil treatment is about maintaining the colour and surface finish. Inspect fixings annually and replace any that show corrosion. Clear drainage gaps of leaves and debris that can hold moisture. With these steps, a properly installed Chengal deck will look and perform well for twenty years and beyond.
