Why Hardwood for 5-Star Hospitality

The beach setting creates an aesthetic context where material authenticity is more visible than almost anywhere else in a resort. Sand, sea, and natural light strip away the forgiving ambiguity of pool deck or restaurant lighting — furniture quality reads immediately and unequivocally against the backdrop of a natural beach. Teak sunbeds, golden-brown against white sand and turquoise water, are one of the defining visual signatures of a premium beach resort experience.

From a durability standpoint, the beach environment accelerates corrosion and material degradation faster than any other hotel outdoor context. Aluminium oxidises, powder coating blisters, synthetic rattan fades and frays, and inferior wood species degrade rapidly in constant salt air. Genuine Teak and Balau, with their high natural oil content and Class 1 durability, are among the very few materials proven to perform reliably in coastal environments over multi-year deployment cycles.

Beach Sunbed / Lounger: Classic slatted hardwood beach sunbed (200cm x 65cm) with 5-position adjustable backrest and integrated wheels for beach staff movement. The signature piece of any beach resort — available in Teak (natural golden or weathered grey) or Balau. Weight 13–16kg.
Beach Double Sunbed: Extra-wide double sunbed (130cm x 200cm) for couples’ beach relaxation. The premium positioning piece for luxury beach resorts — a distinctive upgrade over the standard single lounger that photographs beautifully and commands premium beach cabana rental rates.

Merbau: Rich reddish warmth — Class 1, high natural oils, tropical aesthetic.

For beach applications, we strongly recommend Teak as the primary specification. Its world-leading reputation for marine and coastal applications is backed by centuries of documented performance. Balau is an excellent and more affordable alternative where Teak pricing is a constraint. Both species require only minimal maintenance in beach environments compared to any alternative material.

Our Supply Process

Beach furniture orders for coastal resorts involve an additional specification discussion around the specific marine exposure level: sheltered beach (harbour, lagoon, protected cove) versus fully exposed oceanic beach. This affects hardware specification — sheltered environments can use hot-dip galvanised hardware; fully exposed oceanic beach environments require marine-grade 316 stainless steel throughout. We confirm the exposure category and hardware specification before pricing.

For coastal resort supply, we recommend ordering at least 12–16 weeks before the required deployment date. Beach furniture production uses the same workshop as our residential and hospitality range, but the additional QC steps for marine hardware specification (hardware inspection, end-grain sealing verification) add time to the production process. All beach furniture is palletised or boxed for protective transport to coastal destinations.

Production Capacity

We produce 100–200 beach sunbeds per month under standard scheduling. Large beach resort opening orders of 150+ sunbeds are accommodated with advance booking — contact us 20–24 weeks before your required delivery date to secure production capacity for large coastal resort opening orders.

Delivery to East Malaysia (Sabah, Sarawak) and island resorts (Tioman, Perhentian, Langkawi) is via coordinated sea freight or air freight for smaller orders. We have experience coordinating delivery to island resort properties and can advise on the most appropriate logistics solution for your resort’s location and access conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you protect beach furniture from salt air corrosion?

Salt air corrosion in beach furniture is primarily a hardware issue — the timber itself is protected by regular oiling, but metal fasteners, hinges, and adjustment mechanisms are vulnerable. We specify 316-grade marine stainless steel for all hardware on beach-deployed furniture. 316 SS contains molybdenum which significantly improves resistance to chloride (salt) corrosion compared to standard 304 SS. For adjustable backrests, we use heavy-gauge marine SS rod-and-pin mechanisms with HDPE bushings that do not corrode or seize.

What is the typical replacement cycle for beach sunbeds at a resort?

With appropriate species specification and basic annual maintenance, Teak beach sunbeds should last 15–20 years of commercial deployment at a coastal resort. Balau sunbeds should last 10–15 years. The most common failure mode is hardware (backrest mechanisms) rather than timber structural failure — hardware replacement or refurbishment at year 8–10 can extend the usable life of quality timber frames by another decade. We offer a hardware replacement and refurbishment service for existing sunbed frames.

Do you supply beach furniture to Tioman Island and other Malaysian islands?

Yes — we supply to island resort properties in Malaysia, coordinating sea freight logistics for larger orders. For Tioman Island, goods are transported via the regular ferry/cargo service from Mersing. For other island destinations, we work with established marine freight companies experienced in resort supply logistics. Island delivery timelines and costs vary by destination — contact us to discuss your specific island resort supply requirements.

Can beach sunbeds be branded with our resort logo?

Yes — branding options for beach sunbeds include: engraved timber tag (resort name or logo engraved into a small hardwood medallion screwed to the frame), laser-engraved logo directly into the timber (available for flat-sanded surfaces), branded powder-coated hardware in resort brand colour, and woven cushion cover with resort branding.
